French Fusil Ordinaire Type D #K16 |
The French Fusil Ordinaire Type D was introduced around 1730 when it replaced the expensive Type C. It evolved directly from the C and was essentially similar in construction but with many more variations. Although the basic stock shape was the same, the raised relief carving was eliminated. The elaborate engraved castings were replaced by a more simple version and the finials often did not match from model to model. The fancy scrolled side plate was changed to a more simple flat plate often with engraved hunting scenes more in keeping with the times. The French Type D was the standard until 1763, at the end of the French and Indian War.
The Sitting Fox French Type D is available in grade A walnut or maple machine cut and mated to the octagon to round tapered barrel in 20, 24, 0r 28 gauge smoothbore barrels in lengths up to 42". The stock is 95% fully inlet for the lock, butt plate, side plate, trigger, trigger guard and thimbles. The lock is a top quality American made and fully guaranteed flintlock molded from an original right down to the light engraving. The trim pieces are top quality investment cast molded from originals and show the engraving marks as well. They are available in brass or steel. This is a fairly easy kit to build because of the quality of inletting and castings. Both kits are available in left hand versions with the left large Siler fintlock.
